Market Intelligence comes in two forms: information that is in the public domain, and information that isn't.
Public Domain Intelligence (PDI)
By definition, public domain intelligence is as freely available to you as it is to us.
So why (other than that we may be more skilled in finding it) should you use us as your filter?
Because we have the time to find and fillet, and you don't. In the course of a typical week, our researchers might scan, among other things :
- 15,000 announcements to stock exchange regulatory bodies
- 20,000 press releases
- 200 regional, national and international newspapers
- 100 business and trade magazines, from this country and abroad
- 1,000 web sites
- 20 specialist research studies
- 200 interim and annual reports of quoted companies
- 300 annual reports of unlisted companies
You, too, could buy all of that input and employ people to read it - but outsourcing the task to us is likely to be more cost-effective and more efficient in giving you what you want without overloading you with what you don't.
Non-Public Domain Intelligence (NPDI)
Some of what our clients want to know is not openly available. We use whatever methods of inquiry are needed to find out what you want to know (legal constraints, of course, considered).
This may be as simple as an interview with the Chief Executive of a specific company; or it can be a lot more roundabout than that.
We find, by and large, that our clients are less interested in discussing the specific intelligence methods we use than in the accuracy and timeliness of the information we provide.
Delivering Your Information
No-one else comes close to delivering what our clients told us they really want.
Yes, there are organisations offering a sort of "press cutting" service that dumps a huge amount of undigested material in your lap.
That's not what people told us they wanted. The need is for highly targeted information, alerting clients to events that could represent selling opportunities, delivered rapidly to the people who can use them. Information is sent by email or mail, or is delivered by hand - the precise method chosen will depend on a number of factors. What is sent, and to whom, is decided by you. Some actual examples are given in the
case studies.
Off-Limits Policy
We are very aware of potential conflicts of interest. We will not conduct an NPDI assignment for any company in a sector in which we have already conducted such an assignment for another company within the previous three years.
This policy does not apply to assignments that depend only on Public Domain Intelligence.
What Happens Next?
If what is set out here interests you, we need to meet. There's a fairly simple form here that you can email to us if it will help us prepare for our meeting.
Otherwise, telephone us on 01865 487153 (ask for John Lynch) or email us at jr@cbaresearch.com.
